Work Study Opportunity 

Wilderness Education & Outreach Assistant

Work Schedule: Hours per week will vary; usually 2-5 hours per week

Hours per Week: Min 5, Max 15

Wage/Salary/Other Compensation: $12/hour

Job Description:
Manages the “Outdoor Explorers Mentoring Program,” an outdoor education program which provides local trips to Big Brothers Big Sisters matches.
- Program management (60%): Plans and leads outdoor education trips for Big Brothers Big Sisters matches on a near-monthly basis. Outdoor trips primarily occur on weekend days. Recruits, trains, and manages any necessary student volunteers who help with trips under your supervision. Conducts surveys and interprets results. Produces post-activity blog entries.
- Partnership Coordination (20%): Regularly communicates and manages relationship with nonprofit and government partners for the purposes of this program. Attends appropriate meetings and disseminates regular program updates to partners.
- Marketing & Outreach (20%): Helps update website with trip summaries and pictures. Keeps all forms and information current. Keeps all marketing materials such as fliers and brochures current. Attends related events when appropriate. Works with BBBSGC staff to expand this program.
- May participate in office tasks at BBBSGC.
- Works inside and outside. Physically able to lead outdoor trips in various weather and terrain. Some work conducted on weekends and/or after normal business hours.

Qualifications:
- Must be eligible for and awarded current work study award. Sophomore standing at minimum.
- Experienced in outdoor recreation and/or education activities.
- Enthusiasm for, interest in, and experience working with children and/or adults outdoors.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain before hiring/first outdoor trip.
- Experience using Word Press blogging platform preferred.

Internship

Big Brothers Big Sisters is looking for Interns to assist with fundraising events, PR/marketing and/or community program support.  The Big Brothers Big Sisters office is open Monday – Friday from 8am – 5pm.  Hours are flexible and we try to work with student class schedules, but may ask for occasional help on nights or weekends. This is an unpaid internship.  

We are looking for someone passionate about our mission and interested in working in the non-profit world after college. Special events coordination is the primary emphasis, but will shape this experience to our intern’s interests.
